Double Base Initiative

Our park is proud to announce the implementation of the double base. You may have noticed the inclusion of the double base this weekend during your games at the park. Going forward all fields will have the double base implemented which is located along the first base line. If you are a baseball purist, we understand the hesitation, however we first noticed this summer when the Softball Little League world series and then the Little League world series used the double base. after some research it was clear that this was not a soft and squishy idea that we could easily brush off but the actual direction of the game as a whole. This summer the Division 1 college baseball world series also implemented the double base and will further allow its use in all levels in 2026 under rule 1.7.b. rule 2.7 in NCAA softball will require it's use in 2026 for Division I and 2027 for Division II & III Softball. Lastly the NFHS (National Federation of State High School Associations) will require it at the high school level in 2027. With these changes on the Horizon, we wanted to ensure we lead the way for youth sports here in Tampa Bay. We thank our sponsors who allow us to acquire the bases for all four fields at West Tampa.
